Sermon List
Date Title Sermons
Jan. 20, 2018 Star Struck - The idea that the stars of the heavens declare the glory of God is not a new concept. But this psalm specifically states that God “determines the numbers of the stars” (Ps 147:4). Scientists today say that such a numbering or counting is impossible! And here's something even more amazing. The same God who knows the precise number of stars in the universe also knows you and the things that concern you. Outline, Bulletin.
Feb. 10, 2018 23andAbraham - Many people today are ancestor-curious. They want to know who they are, where their ancestors came from and whether they have any fascinating or mysterious relatives. So, where there's demand, supply rises to meet it and thus the explosion in DNA services that we can use to discover the truth -- sometimes, the un-comfortable truth -- about our ancestors. Outline, Bulletin.
Mar. 10, 2018 Pastor McCowan’s sermon was entitled Soul Repair. It was taken from Psalm 51 and highlighted the social phenomenon of Repair Cafés. In other words, if we can fix toasters, surely God can repair our souls. However, before this repair can be made there is a key requirement that first must be met. Outline, Bulletin.
May 12, 2018 Paul, the Letter Writer - It is a well-established fact that letter writing is a dying custom. The only things we might put in the mail today are greeting cards and bill payments. However, in the past, the writing of letters was an important exercise. Pastor McCowan spoke on the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Ephesians and how it is important for us today. Outline, Bulletin.
Jun 9, 2018 In Pastor McCowan’s sermon Moving God, King David has one objective: move the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. Doesn't sound too hard. But then, something goes terribly wrong. Outline, Bulletin.
Jul 14, 2018 Social media platforms like Twitter make it easy to say something you might later regret, but you also have a chance to “take it back” by deleting it. Even then, sometimes the damage is done before it can be controlled. Of course, there’s no “delete” button when speaking to someone in person. Better to control your speech before it’s spoken. Pastor McCowan’s sermon was is entitled, “Tweaking Our Tweets.” Outline, Bulletin.
Aug 18, 2018 The City of God - No city in the world evokes as much passion -- love and adoration -- and heated political opinions as the city of Jerusalem. The writer of psalm is virtually euphoric about a city that -- already in his own time -- was an ancient city. Why? And what does this celebration song to the city of God say to us today? Outline, Bulletin.
Sep 8, 2018 Got a problem you need to fix? YouTube it! Chances are, someone out there has recorded a video that will give you step-by-step instruction on solving the issue. In this week’s text, James teaches the church how to deal with times of trial and testing, and his solution is a simple one — hear the word of God and do it! Pastor McCowan’s sermon was entitled, “YouTube It”. Outline, Bulletin.
Oct 13, 2018 Pastor McCowan’s sermon was entitled, “Deep Work: Avoiding Weapons of Mass Distraction.” Outline, Bulletin.
Nov 10, 2018 Pastor McCowan’s sermon was entitled “The Survey”. His text was from Mark 8:27-28, where Jesus does a little market research—polling his disciples and asking the question, “Who do you think I am?” Outline, Bulletin.
Dec 8th, 2018 Pastor McCowan’s sermon was entitled “Crazy Busy.” It was about having God’s presence in the midst of our busy lives. His text was taken from Psalm 132:1-12, where David makes a vow that he would not give sleep to his eyes, until he found a place for the Lord’s dwelling place. Outline, Bulletin.
